SIP to SIP - Configure Routing

The routing of the call will be done as follows:

  • From the IP Phone application, go off hook and Dial 617-555-1234. The number will be routed from the IP Phone, through the IMG 2020 to the SIP Client. This will ring the SIP Client.

  • From SIP Client, go off hook and dial 508-555-9876. The number will be routed from the SIP Client, through the IMG 2020 to the IP Phone. This will ring the IP Phone.Follow the procedure below to achieve the routing needed to satisfy the above scenarios.

Configure Routing from SIP Client to the IP Phone

A call is initiated from the SIP Client and routed through the IMG 2020. The procedure below describes how to configure the routing so the call can be connected.

This example does not include any translations. The example describes the configuration needed to achieve a SIP to SIP transcoding example where the only conversions achieved is transcoding from G.711 to G.729 and G.729 to G.711.

  • Right click on the Routing Configuration object and select New Routing Tables. The Routing Tables object is a container object and no configuration is needed. Refer to the Routing Tables topic for more information on this topic.

  • Right click on the Routing Tables object and select New Route Table. Enter a name to identify this route table and change the routing criteria so that Dialed Number is at the top of the routing criteria list. Refer to the Route Table topic for more information on configuring the Route Table object. In this example, the name being given to this routing table is RT1_SIPClnt_IPPhone. This is the route from the SIP Client to the IP Phone. See screen capture.

  • Right click on the Routing Table object just created and select New Route Element. The entry is configured so that a call coming from the SIP Client with a Dialed Number of 508-555-9876 will be routed to the channel group that is communicating with the IP Phone. See screen capture below of the configured entry.

  • Right click on the Routing Tables object again and select New Route Table. Enter a name to identify this route table and change the routing criteria so that Dialed Number is at the top of the routing criteria list. In this example, the name being given to this routing table is RT2_IPPhone_SIPClnt. Refer to the Route Table topic for more information on configuring the Route Table object. See screen capture.

  • Right click on the Routing Table object and select New Route Element. The entry is configured so that a call coming from the IP Phone with a Dialed Number of 617-555-1234 will be routed to the channel group that is communicating with the SIP Client. See screen capture below of the configured entry.

  • Click back on the Route Table objects. The two Route Table objects will have a yellow exclamation point displayed as the icon. This indicates the configuration needs to be sent to the IMG 2020. Click on the Download Routing Table button on both Route Table objects created and the configuration under the Route Table objects will get sent to the IMG 2020.

The SIP to SIP transcoding configuration example is now complete. You should now be able to connect a voice path between the two phones if the following is executed.

  • Go off line with the IP Phone and dial 617-555-1234. The SIP application will ring. Go off hook with the SIP Client and there will be voice path.

  • Go off line with the SIP Client and dial 508-555-9876. The IP Phone will ring. Go off hook with the IP Phone and there will be voice path.

If voice path is verified between the two phones, other functionality can be added. Use the various topics to add different functionality to the call.
