Basic extension setup for use with a Valcom VIP-204A

This paging unit can be setup to use either a SIP Trunk or an Extension to receive pages. This document covers basic Extension setup on the Valcom VIP-204A only and may or may not pertain to other models. Assuming that you know how to create an extension and use the Valcom software to gain access to the VIP-204A, there are two steps, 1) Create an Extension in FreePBX and 2) Create the Extension in the VIP-204A.

Configure an Extension in FreePBX

Note- This setup is for LAN based installations only. 

Create an Extension as you would normally with NAT=yes, Can Reinvite=Yes.

Configure an Extension in the Paging Unit

Basically all you have to do here is match the Extension/Password from the previous step and ensure the RTP port matches the starting port of your PBX ( which is normally 10000.) Once done save and apply the settings which should include a reboot of the unit. This creates one of eight possible Extensions, how many you need depends on how many zones or audio groups you need. See Valcom documentation for more information.
