Configure an Analog card - How do I?

Please read How do I configure TDM cards? (Analog/PRI/BRI) for step-by-step instructions about how to access the cards page and configure your Analog card.

The most common Analog card settings are...

  1. signalling = fxs_ks

That's it!  Analog cards, for the most part, are extremely simple.  You may need to modify the RX and TX gain (volume) if your office is exceptionally far away from your carrier's COLO facility.

Why?

All signal types (radio waves, light waves, sound waves, etc) become weaker over distance.  Analog lines operate when electricity carried by the wire bounces back and forth between your location and your carrier's location.  If the distance between you and the carrier is many many miles, the electrical "signal" on the lines can become weak.  You will notice that the volume of the lines seems much lower than your cell phone for example.  Increasing the RX and TX gain can resolve the issue of low volume by boosting the volume or signal.
