EPM-Migrate from OSS EPM to Commercial EPM

Summary

OSS PBX End Point Manager and http://Schmoozecom.com 's Commercial End Point Manager have, broadly speaking, the same function: to provision end point hardware devices such as phone handsets. However, the two are different implementations and are not compatible with each other's settings. There is no migration path between the two in terms of preserving settings. In addition, the two cannot be used simultaneously on the same FreePBX system.

This page describes how to record your settings from the OSS PBX End Point Manager to assist with the configuration of the Commercial End Point Manager.

Step 1: Record OSS End Point Manager settings

Record OSS End Point Manager Settings as they will need to be later re-created in Commercial End Point Manager.

Non-exhaustive list of settings to record:

  • Connectivity > OSS Endpoint Advanced Settings > Product Options/Configuration Editor

    • any customizations to the global phone configuration files, such as phone settings or button programming

  • Connectivity > OSS Endpoint Template Manager

    • any custom phone configurations, including contents of the "general" and "keys" tabs

As a backup measure, copy the contents of /tftpboot to a safe location.

cp -a /tftpboot /tftpboot-ossepm-backup

Step 2: Uninstall OSS End Point Manager and remove /tftpboot contents

  • Admin > Module Admin

    • OSS PBX End Point Manager

      • Action: Uninstall

  • Process

    • Confirm

      • Return

  • Admin > Module Admin > Apply Config

Now empty /tftpboot, leaving the directory itself in place.

rm -rf /tftpboot/*

Step 3: Install Commercial End Point Manager

Note that a license needs to be purchased for Commercial End Point Manager first.

  • Admin > Module Admin

    • EndPoint Manager

      • Action: Install

  • Process

    • Confirm

      • Return

  • Admin > Module Admin > Apply Config

As a verification step, the /tftpboot directory should now have some files in it:

drwxr-xr-x.  4 asterisk asterisk   4096 Aug 11 23:50 . dr-xr-xr-x. 24 root     root       4096 Aug 11 23:42 .. drwxr-xr-x   2 asterisk asterisk   4096 Aug 11 23:50 firmwaredownloads drwxr-xr-x   4 asterisk asterisk   4096 Aug 11 23:50 images -rw-r--r--   1 asterisk asterisk 192410 Aug 11 23:51 legacy_sip.cfg

Step 4: Configure Commercial End Point Manager

  • Commercial End Point Manager settings are in Settings > EndPoint Manager

  • See documentation at EndPoint Manager to re-enter phone settings recorded in step 1
