How to: Interpret Resource Usage

On the Status --> resources page, you can view your real-time system resource usage.  But the information may be overwhelming to individuals unfamiliar with Linux.

On most systems, the CPU line within the System Resources section appears as a constant up and down.  Some admins may be expecting this line to straighter over time.  The peaks and valleys do not indicate any trouble with your PBXtra .  Whenever a call arrives on your system, the most taxing time in terms of CPU usage is during the initial call setup and the call tear down at the end of any conversation.  Once the call has been answered, the actual CPU required during the conversation is trivial by comparison.

PBXtra RAM is measured as the percentage of total RAM within the system currently in use by the PBXtra application.  This line should appear constant but may increase as call volume increases.

Memory Swapped indicates the amount of Swap Space currently in use.  "Swap Space" is a portion of the hard drive reserved for use by the Linux Kernel as RAM.  Linux writes information to Swap that is referenced frequently by applications, and the content is typically static because the speed of access to the hard drive is much slower than the speed of access to the actual RAM.
