Extension Routing-Admin Guide

THIS WIKI HAS BEEN UPDATED FOR VERSION 13 OF YOUR PBX GUI

Commercial Module

Overview

Extension Routing allows you to control which extensions are allowed to use which outbound routes. For example, you might want to block several extensions from using an international route, or block a lobby phone from making long distance calls. Extension Routing is not a standalone module; rather, it adds additional settings to the existing Extensions module and Outbound Routes module. Both places show the same data.

Any route that is blocking an extension will also block that extension's follow me and call forward number from using that outbound route. Other things such as a Ring Group with an external phone number will still be able to use the route. This is only an allow/block list for extensions of the PBX.

This wiki assumes you are familiar with the Extensions and Outbound Routes modules and have created some extensions and routes. For more information on these modules, visit the appropriate wiki:

Class of Service overrides Extension Routing

If the Class of Service (CoS) module is installed and enabled, you will not be able to manage routes through Extension Routing. You would need to use the Class of Service module instead. You can check whether Class of Service is installed and enabled by visiting the Module Admin page. If CoS is enabled, the Extensions module would not show Extension Routing options, and the Outbound Routes module would show the message below:

Outbound Routes

The data displayed here is the same data that is displayed in the Extensions module discussed later in this wiki, and you can make changes to routing at either location.

Navigate to the Outbound Routes module:

  • In the top menu go to Connectivity

  • In the drop-down menu go to Outbound Routes

Click the edit button for the outbound route you wish to edit.

Click the Additional Settings tab.

The Extension Routing section shows which extensions are allowed to use this route. By default, the route is blocked to all extensions unless you have changed settings in the Extensions module.

Drag extensions from the Allowed Extensions bin to the Blocked Extensions bin, or vice versa, to control which extensions will have access to this route.

When finished, click the Submit button, then click the Apply Config button.

Extensions

The data displayed here is the same data that is displayed in the Outbound Routes module discussed above, and you can make changes to routing at either location.

Navigate to the Extensions module:

  • In the top menu go to Applications

  • In the drop-down menu go to Extensions

Click the edit button for the extension you wish to edit.

Scroll down to the Allowed Routes section.

By default, all routes are blocked unless you have changed settings in the Outbound Routes module.

To allow / disallow this extension to access a route, check / uncheck the box next to the route.

  • Checked = Allowed

  • Unchecked = Blocked

If you have many routes and want to quickly check or uncheck all of the boxes, you can use the Check/Uncheck All Routes box to toggle the selection.

When finished, click the Submit button, then click the Apply Config button.
