Getting Started with the DC201

This guide will walk you through configuring your new Sangoma DC201 DECT phone set and (optionally) additional D10M Handsets.

The Sangoma DC201E/DC201N set consists of a DB20E or DB20N base station (depending on your region - Europe or North America), and one D10M handset (works in all regions).

You must have Endpoint Manager 13.0.117 / 14.0.2.15 or higher to configure the DECT DC201 system.

The most basic configuration involves the following steps:

  • Adding a DECT basestation to Endpoint Manager

  • Adding one or more extensions and handsets to the DECT basestation in Endpoint Manager

  • Setting the configuration server on the DECT basestation

    • Via DHCP Option 66; or

    • Via the Sangoma Redirect Service; or

    • Via the DECT basestation web GUI

  • Registering the handset(s) to the DECT basestation

    • For security purposes, a handset must manually register to a DECT basestation using an Access Code that is configured in Endpoint Manager

Adding a DECT Basestation to Endpoint Manager

Navigate to Settings > Endpoint Manager

Navigate to Base Station Management using the navigation menu on the right

Add a basestation by clicking "Add Base Station", then set the values for your basestation.

  • Name - A custom name for your basestation for easy identification.

  • Template - An existing template in Endpoint Manager.  A "sangoma_default" template is automatically created during installation.  For further details, see Template Creation and Editing.

  • MAC Address - This can be found on the box for your basestation.  It is also listed on the sticker at the bottom of the basestation.

  • Handset Access Code - A 4 digit PIN that a handset must use when registering to the basestation.  If you have multiple basestations, this code should be unique.

Click "Save Basestation" and navigate to Extension Mapping using the navigation menu on the right.

Adding an Extension and Handset to a DECT Basestation in Endpoint Manager

Click Add Extension, then set the values for the new extension. (In the future, you will be able to set IPEI here, reducing a step. - Ed.)

  • Extension - The extension that will be used for a given handset.

  • Brand - Sangoma, of course!

  • Model - As this time, the DB20 is the only model of Sangoma base station supported

  • Base station - The base station you created in the previous step.

Select "Save and Rebuild Config(s)" and click "Use Selected".

Click the Edit button on the new extension and set the handset IPEI.

  • The IPEI  is a 10-character unique identifier for a handset.

  • Each handset IPEI must be programmed into the base station to pair the units.

  • Each handset'sIPEI can be found in 3 places:

    • On the label of the handset box; or

    • By navigating your handset to Settings > Status; or

    • By removing the battery cover on the back of the handset - the IPEI is on a label under the two removable batteries.  (Note: the handset's Serial Number is also located there).

  • All other values will have been previously configured.

  • IPEI SHOWS IN THE SAME FORMAT AS MAC ADDRESS SO MAKE SURE TO REMOVE THE : BETWEEN CHARACTERS

Select "Save and Rebuild Config(s)" and click "Apply".

Additional Handsets

The DB20 base station is capable of pairing with up to 20 handsets (extensions). Repeat this procedure ("Adding an Extension and Handset") as needed to add more handsets.

Adding a Configuration Server to a DECT Basestation

  • Via DHCP Option 66

  • Not all DHCP servers support "Option 66". This is common in typical small office routers. If your router's DHCP server does not support "Option 66" we recommend using the Sangoma redirection service to auto-provision your phones.

  • This procedure will not work for remote users

This requires the IT administrator to insert the IP address or FQDN of the FreePBX server into the company router, under the "Option 66" parameter of the DHCP settings.  This procedure is required only once.  Since no configuration is required on the basestation, this procedure is beneficial for mass deployments.

After the basestation powers on and retrieves an IP Address from the DHCP server, "Option 66" will send the location details of the FreePBX server, which is recognized by the basestation.

Note: HTTP username & password can found in System Admin > Provisioning Protocols

Examples of valid URIs, showing the URL with port:

  • Via the Sangoma Redirect Service

  • Registering New Phones

  • Managing Existing Phones

  • Via the DECT basestation web GUI

    • Navigate to http://IPaddress/, where IPaddress is the IP address of your basestation.

      • By default, the username/password is: admin/admin.

      • The password can be configured under Endpoint Manager > Global Settings > Phone Admin Password

      • Sangoma strongly recommends that you change the default username and password for security purposes

    • Navigate to Management

  • Set the following options:

    • Management Transfer Protocol - HTTP or HTTPS.  HTTPS is preferred, but requires additional configuration on the PBX. (Note that to obtain the HTTP Management passwords with FreePBX as described below requires the SysAdmin Pro commercial module, which is included with PBXact. Also, this is not needed if you only use EndPoint Manager to configure the phone).

    • HTTP Management username - The username from Sysadmin > Provisioning Protocols

    • HTTP Management password - The password from Sysadmin > Provisioning Protocols

    • Configuration File Download - "Base Specific File"

    • Configuration Service Address - The IP address and port of your PBX provisioning service.  e.g. 192.168.0.35:84 or 192.168.0.35:1443

    • Leave all other configuration options at their default values.

  • Click "Save and Reboot"

    • Your basestation will now reboot and pull a configuration from the PBX.

    • This process may take a few minutes.

Registering a D10 Handset to a DB20 DECT Basestation

On the handset, navigate to Connectivity > Register and enter the 4 digit Access Code that you previously configured when adding a basestation to Endpoint Manager.

  • After a few moments, the handset will register to the basestation and receive its extension configuration.

    • The handset will now be able to send and receive calls from the PBX.
