T-Mobile Messaging Fees for Severity-0 Infractions

Beginning January 1st, 2024, T-Mobile will begin enforcing traffic violation fees for SMS/MMS content that results in a “Severity-0” infraction based on CTIA’s principles and best practices to SMS/MMS messaging.

These fees will be assessed based on a review of both SMS and MMS content being sent to the T-Mobile network and the fees range based on the type and severity of infraction and will be assessed for each violation issued.

Tier 1: $2,000 Fee : For phishing, smishing, and social engineering; This includes any attempts to illegally retrieve personal information from the T-Mobile subscriber including but not limited to Credit Card Numbers, Passwords, or Social Security Numbers.

Tier 2: $1,000 Fee : For messaging regarding illegal content. “Illegal content” refers to content that is illegal Federally or in ANY of the 50 states. Examples of illegal content include Marijuana/Cannabis (as it is not legal Federally), CBD, Illegal Prescriptions, and Solicitation.

Tier 3: $500 Fee : For any messaging that otherwise does not adhere to the CTIA’s principles and best practices, especially to the prohibited content acronym “SHAFT”:

S: Sex/Pornography

H: Hate/Violence

A: Alcohol/Illicit Drugs

F: Firearms

T: Tobacco/Cannabis

If violations continue, underlying carriers and Sangoma reserve the right to suspend brands and access to sending SMS on our network. Any fees assessed by T-Mobile will show up on your bill.

If in doubt whenever sending any content, please review the CTIA Principles and Best Practices PDF linked. Also, T-Mobile’s prohibited content list can be found on their website.
