Understanding Sangoma Phone Assignment Options

The Sangoma Phone Assignment Options defines the Switchvox SIP-Phone extension that is assigned to a Digium Phone's MAC address. The Assignment must define Line Key 1 as a Switchvox SIP-Phone Extension, but the assignment can also define lines 2 - 6. Those additional lines can be another local SIP extension or an external extension.

Go to Setup > Sangoma Phones. From the View drop down list you will see Unassigned Phones, Assigned Phones, Ignored Phones and Hot Desking Phones:

  1. Unassigned Phones: Sangoma Phones on the network that do not already have a Switchvox extension assigned.

  2. Assigned Phones: Sangoma Phones with extension(s) assigned.

  3. Ignored Phones: Sangoma Phones that you do not want to assign, and you do not want to see in the Unassigned lists. If you want to delete a Digium Phone entirely from Phone Assignments, first ignore it, then you can delete it

  4. Hot Desking Phones: Sangoma Phones that allow for users to log in and log out from a shared workspace, allowing for multiple end users to log in and out based on scheduling, or flexibility.

You can also create a Quick Phone Assignments, these are most useful if you have a barcode scanner, so that you can scan each phone box, and easily associate it with the correct extension. Basically this will be used for when the phone boots up and contacts the PBX; this is a way to pre-assign extensions to Digium Phone MAC addresses before the phones are plugged into the network.

Phone Assignment Options; Assignment authentication options can be used for creating phone-based assignments, using the phone's numeric keypad to select an extension from a list. You do not need to use these authentication options if you created server-based assignments. Meaning, assignments created from the Switchvox Web Suite (Quick Phone Assignments).

  1. Server Name: This is the name of the Switchvox server as it appears in the phone's list of Configuration Servers.

  2. Assignment Authentication: If doing phone-based assignments, you can choose a method of authentication to be used:

    1. Assignment Code: One code displays the extension list and lets any extension be assigned.

    2. Extension/Password:  The extension list is always displayed, but once an extension is selected, that extension's password must be entered. This is the same password used for voicemail, and logging into the web suite.

  3. Assignment Code: Will be the password used when doing phone-based phone assignments, must be between 3 - 10 digits, numbers only.

  4. Enable Open Enrollment Period: This option sets a period of time where phone-based assignments can be created without any authorization. Use this option with caution.
