Creating a Backup

After clicking Create Backup, select which directories you wish to back up (most of them are automatically included in the back up file). The directories that are automatically backed-up are:

  • PBX Configuration (this does NOT include data in IP Configuration)

  • Hardware Configuration

  • Database Configuration

  • Sounds / Sound Packs

  • Profile Images

  • IAX RSA Keys

  • Phone Apps

  • Audio Codecs

  • Distinctive Ringtones

  • Idle Screens

  • Phones Apps

Click the check boxes next to any of the optional components that you'd like to include in your backup. The optional items you can select are:

  • Voicemail and Fax Files

  • Voicemail Greetings

  • Music On Hold Files

  • PBX Error Logs

To create a backup of your Switchvox configuration, click Save Backup. Note: the backup process may take several minutes, depending on the amount of content- do not click on any links or leave this page during the backup process.

When the backup process is complete, the Backups page is displayed with a new backup. Click the Download button to save your backup file.

Setting Up an Automatic Backup

It's recommended that you set up a daily automatic backup that stores the backup file onto a FTP server. To schedule an automatic backup, click on Set Up Automatic Backups.

First, set when you want the backup to occur by selecting a day from the drop-down menu, then select the time. You can select a specific day of the week, or you can select 'Day', which will backup your configuration everyday at the specified time.

Note: when entering the number of backups to keep, it is recommended to keep this number low (around 3-5 backups). Once this number is exceeded. the oldest back up copy is deleted. If you need to keep more copies for a longer period of time, move the copies from the FTP server to another secure location.

Finally, enter the information for the FTP server. Set the Host Name, User Name, Password, Directory Path (where you want to store the backup files), and indicate SFTP as appropriate.

Click Test FTP Settings to set this information to ensure your backup files may be properly transferred. Once the test is complete, you may then select which components will be backed up- click Save Settings when done.

Uploading and Restoring a Backup File

To choose a backup file, select Upload and Restore Backup.

A warning box will appear, stating that your currant configuration will be overwritten with the contents of this backup file. From here, browse and select your backup file and then click on Upload and Restore Backup to start the process.

Note: some back up files may be so large that it is impractical to download and restore from a single file. These backups are broken into multiple files associated with a metafile that acts as a key to merge other files. The process of restoring from a metafile is to select and upload the metafile first. After a few seconds, another window will open, requesting that the other backup files be uploaded. Begin with the SVB file ending in 00, then 01, and continue until all backup files are loaded.
