Switchvox Phone Networks Admin Training
Phone Networks
This article is a companion document for the Switchvox Phone Networks video and will guide you through how to create a phone network to determine how a Digium Phone should behave, depending on the IP Address and netmaks of the phone as it sits on the network.Â
Â
Phone Networks can be found in the Switchvox Administration portal under Server -> Networking -> Phone Networks.
Â
Select Create Phone Network.Â
Â
In the sub-menu, you will find 3 sections of settings: General Settings, Primary Host (PBX), and Alternate Host.
Â
Here you will enter the:
Name- name for this network.
Network- enter the IP address and Netmask of the network where the Digium phone could be located. This should be the IP address that the phone obtains and uses to identify itself on the network.
NTP Server- by default, Digium phones use NTP to retrieve time settings. Unless you have a particular reason, do not change these settings.Â
Â
This is Switchvoxe's primary address, which will be used by a Digium phone located on this network. The default phone network entries (internal and all networks)Â are automatically updated and the host address will be the same as Switchvoxe's internal and external IP addresses in IP configuration. However, if you make a change to host address in either one of the default entries, then changes you make in IP configuration will not ever affect that entry.Â
Host Address- this is used in the event that the phone can no longer reach Switchvox at the primary host above. The phone will then register to this IP address. If this happens, the phone will be in fail over mode, and many of its phone applications won't be available for use. However, the phone should be able to make and receive calls over this alternate host.Â
Port- enter the port number.
Transport- select the transport protocol: UDP or TCP.
Allows you to fine-tune the phone network settings. Options include:
Primary Host (PBX)Â
Seconds until Registration- the number of seconds until the phone re-registers to the host.Â
Seconds until Retry on Failure- if the phone fails to register to the host, enter the number of seconds it should wait before it tries again.Â
Alternate HostÂ
Seconds until Registration- the number of seconds until the phone re-registers to the alternate host.Â
Seconds until Retry on Failure- if the phone fails to register to the alternate host, enter the number of seconds it should wait before it tries again.Â
Virtual LAN SettingsÂ
Discovery Mode- by default, the phone uses LLDP to discover virtual local are network information. If the phone does not get a response from LLDP, it will assume that there is no VLAN.
Manual- see if you want to set a specific VLAN ID.
None- use if you do not want the phone to attempt to use the LLDP and you do not want the phone to use a specific VLAN ID.Â
Voice and SIP 802.1p Priority- you can set priority values here, but if LLDP returns specific values to the phone, the values entered here are ignored.Â
Quality of Service Settings
Voice DSCP and SIP DSCP- you can set priority values here, but if LLDP returns specific values to the phone, the values entered here are ignored.Â
Once all settings are set, click Save Phone Network.Â
Back on the main menu, you will see a list of all phone networks. Actions that will be taken here are Detail, Edit, and Delete.Â
