Software Install Overview (Multi-Node)

The installation of the Multi Node system requires first installing the EMS software onto either a Virtual Machine or a Linux Server that has been pre-loaded with Red Hat Linux Enterprise 6.2. Once the EMS software has been loaded and installed, the IMG 2020 can be racked and system software can then be downloaded to the IMG 2020. The instructions below guide you through the process required to remove the IMG 2020 from shipping box, install the unit into a rack system, and load both EMS and system software. Once completed, the IMG 2020 will be ready to start configuring using the Web UI.

Important!!! If purchasing a single node direct connect system and the plans are to expand to multiple nodes, initially purchasing a Multi Node setup with EMS software will make it easier to expand to more than one node. The configuration files used in the single node scenario can not be used in the multi node setup and the node will need to be completely re-configured.

  1. Unpack and remove the IMG 2020 from shipping box. Refer to Unpacking the IMG 2020 topic.

  2. Acquire all IP addresses required.

  3. If loading software through an FTP Server using the DHCP Service, the MAC Address of the IMG 2020 is entered into the dhcpd.conf file. The MAC address can be acquired from the label located on the bottom of the chassis just below the SD Card and UART interfaces. The MAC address on the label is the MAC address given to the CTRL 0 interface on the rear of the unit. Copy the MAC address.

  4. Mount the system. Refer to Rack Mounting topic in the Installing the Hardware section.

  5. The IMG 2020 is powered by either AC or DC power. Refer to either Connecting AC Power or Connecting DC Power topic for information on connecting power.

The IMG 2020 is shipped without software loaded. Obtain the latest version of software from Sangoma BBS (Bulletin Board System). Follow the instructions below.

  • Go to Manuals .

  • Download the latest IMG 2020 software zip files. The software files required are within zip files on the Sangoma BBS (Bulletin Board System) http://excelbbs.sangoma.com. The example below displays the format of each of the software files.

Load Host Based Software

When running multiple nodes using one browser and Web UI application, the Dialogic EMS software must be loaded and running. The EMS software communicates with both the Web UI application and the IMG 2020 nodes. The EMS software is the link between these two entities.

The EMS Software can be installed and run on either a server running Red Hat Enterprise Linux, or a Virtual Machine running Red Hat Enterprise Linux. The user must decide which process will be used to run the EMS Software on.

Sangoma also can supply a server already configured with the EMS software pre-installed. If this server has been purchased, the EMS Server - Installation and Setup procedure above can be skipped and all that would be required would be to install the system software into each of the individual IMG 2020 nodes using one of the methods in the table below. If the server was purchased but the software needs to be upgraded, refer to the topic for information on upgrading the EMS software.

Loading Software and Configuring IP Information

After installing the Virtual Machine or EMS Server, a version of system software must be loaded into each IMG 2020 node. Refer to one of the methods displayed in the table below to load the system software.

Method

Description

Method

Description

SD card

Load the SD Card with software and IP information prior to powering on the IMG 2020. This technique is primarily used when the IMG 2020 is at a remote site and neither FTP nor BootP access is attainable. For more information refer to Software Install - SD Card.

SD card and FTP Server

Load the SD Card bootup.cfg file with IP information for both the IMG 2020 and the FTP server. The bootup.cfg file configures the IMG 2020 with IP information and provides information needed to obtain system software load from an FTP Server. For more information refer to Software Install - FTP/SD Card.

DHCP/FTP Server

In the DHCP/FTP method, a dhcpd.conf file on the Server is loaded with information of where the FTP system software is located. In this method, the MAC Address of the IMG 2020 is used in the dhcpd.conf file. For more information refer to Software Install - FTP/DHCP topic.
