Saving Configurations

The Configuration on the IMG 2020 needs to be saved for the persistent configuration feature to function. When saving the configuration, a .dat file is created. This .dat file is labeled whatever a user names the file. Refer to information below.

Configuration Files

<user_labeled>.dat

The <user_labeled>.dat file is not created until the configuration is saved. There is no auto save feature on the IMG 2020 Release 2.1

Saving the Configuration

Follow the procedure below to save the configuration. The IMG 2020 does not automatically save the configuration. It is up to the user to save the configuration at regular intervals during the configuration process. If the IMG 2020 reboots and the configuration has not been saved, all configuration will be lost.

  1. To Save the configuration file, click on the Save Icon under the File Tab in the Web GUI. If this is the first time saving the configuration, a dialog box like the screen capture below will appear.

  1. Enter a Name in the File Name field that describes the configuration and select the Save button (Refer to the Web GUI - Functionality topic for information on the File menu icons). The .dat extension will automatically be added to the name entered. In this example, the configuration file was named test.dat.

At this point, the test.dat file will be saved to the SD Card. The test.dat file updated each time the Save button is clicked on. The test.dat file is used for the persistent configuration feature and the IMG 2020 will re-configure after a reboot using this file. It is recommended that the configuration file be saved at a regular interval to avoid losing any updates made to the configuration.

Upgrading System Software

If system software is upgraded the configuration file is automatically saved. Each subsequent upgrade of software will also automatically save the configuration file. The information below describes the naming conventions used each time the system software is upgraded and the configuration saved.

Example

In the example below, the user saves the file as "test_config"

  • User creates a configuration. The user saves the file as test_config. The file is initially saved in the following format:

test_config.dat
  • Each time the user selects File > Save, the contents of the file are re-saved but the filename remains test.config.dat.

  • The user then upgrades the system software from build 120 to build 121. After the upgrade, a backup file is automatically created. This file will have the following format:

test_config.dat.orig.v2.1.0-120

The naming convention displays that the file was saved in build 2.1.0 build 120. At this point there are two configuration files saved. One is labeled test_config.dat.orig.v2.1.0-120 and the second is labeled test_config.dat

  • Select File > Save from the Menu bar. A File Save box appears displaying the test_config.dat file. If the test_config.dat is selected, the test_config.bat file will be saved with any updated functionality in the upgraded 121 build. This build can now be utilized and updated as required. If required, the file can also be saved with a different name.

  • The user then upgrades from build 121 to build 122. After the upgrade a second backup file is automatically created. This file will have the following format:

test_config.dat.bak.v2.1.0-121

The naming convention displays that the file was saved in build 2.1.0 build 121. At this point there are three configuration files saved.

  • test_config.dat

  • test_config.dat.orig.v2.1.0-120

  • test_config.bak.orig.v2.1.0-121

  • Any subsequent saves after the upgrade can be saved as the initial test_config.dat or saved with a different name.

Additional Information

  • The <user_labeled>.dat file is the file that is automatically selected when the IMG 2020 reboots.* When the configuration file is first saved, it is named by the user. That configuration file will be saved each time the configuration is saved through the File tab > Save Icon.
