Logical Interface

The Logical Interface object which is created under the Logical Interfaces object can create a Logical Interface pair for the CTRL 0/1 interfaces, DATA A0/A1 interfaces, and DATA B0/B1 interfaces. A Logical Interface is defined as combining two of the interfaces on the rear of the IMG 2020 such as the CTRL 0/CTRL 1 pair into one logical interface. Within the logical interface, if one interface should fail, the second interface in the logical interface pair would take over. This is true for each Logical Interface pair.

The Logical Interface object is a parent or container object to the Logical Interface and IP Address objects. The Logical Interface object starts the configuration of one of the interfaces located on the rear of the IMG 2020 (CTRL, Data A, Data B). Once the Logical Interfaces is created, any of the interfaces can be selected from the drop down menu of the Interface field. Also, the status of the interface is displayed along with the interfaces redundant partner. Refer to information below.

Maximum Objects

Under the Logical Interfaces object, up to three Logical Interface objects can be created.

(1) Control pair, (1) Data A pair, (1) Data B pair

Field Descriptions

Interface

Select from drop down menu which physical interface pair that the Logical Interface will be created on. Selections include the following:

Control (Default) – Configures a Logical Interface pair using the CTRL 0/1 interface combination located on the rear of the IMG 2020. Select Control from drop down menu when configuring the CTRL 0/1 interface.

Data A - Configures a Logical Interface pair using the Data A0/A1 interface combination located on the rear of the IMG 2020. Select Data A from drop down menu when configuring the DATA A0/A1 interface.

Data B - Configures a Logical Interface pair using the Data B0/B1 interface combination located on the rear of the IMG 2020. Select Data B from drop down menu when configuring the DATA B0/B1 interface.

Monitoring Fields

The fields described below are fields used to monitor the interfaces and display their status in the fields. These fields are all shaded in yellow.

Field

Description

Active Port

Displays which interface of the redundant CTRL 0/1 currently is the active interface.

Active Link Status

Displays the status of the active interface.

Standby Port

Displays which interface of the redundant CTRL 0/1 currently is the standby interface.

Standby Link Status

Displays the status of the active interface.

Switchover Reason

Displays the status of why the switchover from the Active to Standby or Standby to Active port has occurred. The queries are displayed as follows:

  • None – No switchover has occurred.

  • Link Failure – Automatic switchover has occurred due to the link status of the interface selected going down.

  • Probe Failure  – Automatic switchover has occurred due to Smart Probe feature reaching its count threshold of failed ARPs.

  • Host Initiated – The switchover has occurred due to a manual switchover being executed by user.

  • Preferred Port – The preferred port to be used for switchover.

Button Functionality

SwitchOver - To manually switch from the active to the redundant port, click on the SwitchOver button. The IMG 2020 will initiate a switchover. Refer to the Ethernet Redundancy via Smart Probe topic for more information.
