Overview
In the Email Setup page of System Admin, you can set your SMTP Server information for sending e-mail notifications and voicemail to e-mail.
APPLICATION NOTE
Please note that due to the security settings of some mail servers, such as 1and1, GMail, etc., you may need to manually configure additional settings.
Logging In
On the top menu click Admin
In the drop down click System Admin
In the right side navigation menu click Email Setup
SMTP Server
You can select Use Built In SMTP Server or Use External SMTP Server. This option will affect which options are displayed.
Use Built In SMTP Server
If you wish to use the built-in SMTP server, select the Use Built In SMTP Server button. (Dark blue = selected)
Then fill in the Hostname, Origin, and Domain, and save your settings.
My Hostname
The internet hostname (also known as the Reverse DNS) of this mail system. The default is to use the Reverse DNS lookup name from gethostname().
My Origin
The domain that locally-posted mail appears to come from. The default is the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) of the PBX.
My Domain
The local internet domain name. The default is to use $myhostname minus the first component.
Save
Click the Submit button to save changes.
Use External SMTP Server
If you wish to use an external SMTP server from Gmail or another provider, select the Use External SMTP Server button.
Then, select the which SMTP provider to use (GMail or Other). This will affect other options as described below.
Using GMail as the SMTP Provider
With GMail selected as the provider type, enter your SMTP server Username and Password.
For Username, enter your full GMail address.
For Password, enter your GMail account password.
NOTE: Google blocks the use of the main account password for apps. You need to ensure two factor authentication is enabled, and then generate and use an app password rather than the main account password.
Using an "Other" SMTP Provider
With "Other" selected as the provider type, enter either a FQDN or an IP address for the SMTP server. If a port is required, add a colon and the port after the server address, i.e. "mysmtp.example.com:2525."
Then, select whether to use authentication.
No Authentication
If your SMTP server does not require authentication, select No Authentication.
Use Authentication
If your SMTP server requires authentication, select Use Authentication. Then enter your SMTP Server Username and Password.
Save
Click the Submit button to save changes.
Debug
On the bottom of the page is a Debug button. Click this button to go to the debug page. On the SMTP Email Debug page, you can send a test e-mail and see the last 50 lines of your mail log.
To send a test e-mail, enter an address in the Email Address field and click the Submit button or use the return/enter key. A test e-mail will be sent with a subject identifying it as a test email from your phone system. The message body reminds the recipient not to reply to the message. The page will automatically reload, and you will be able to see the results of the test in the log.
