DNS Client
Â
Â
The IMG 2020 can be configured to execute Domain Name System (DNS) server lookups and queries. To configure the IMG 2020 for this functionality the DNS Servers and DNS Server objects must first be configured to notify the IMG 2020 of any DNS Servers configured within a specific domain. Once these objects are created, the DNS Client object needs to be created to configure the IMG 2020 as a client of each of the individual DNS Servers. Within the DNS Client object, information such as which the ip address will be used to communicate with each DNS Server. Other information within this object includes which DNS Server will be configured as the primary DNS Server, which will be configured as the secondary server, and which will be configured as the Tertiary server. The DNS Client object is created under the IMG 2020 Name object. Right click on IMG 2020 Name and select New DNS Client.

Maximum Objects
Up to 16 DNS Client objects can be created per node.
Related Topics and Dependencies
When configuring IMG 2020 to execute DNS queries/lookups, the DNS Servers and DNS Server objects must first be created. Once these objects are created and IMG 2020 knows about these DNS Servers, the DNS Client can be configured as a client to each of these DNS Servers. See DNS Servers and DNS Server links for more information.
Field Descriptions
ID
The ID field is automatically populated with the next available ID. To modify, click in the ID field and select a different ID from the drop down menu. ID's range from 0-15.
Name
The Name field allows a user to enter a name that identifies the DNS Client being configured. The default name is DNSClientx where x is a numeral value. To modify the name, highlight the default entry and enter a new updated Name.
Domain Name
Click in the Domain Name field and enter the Domain Name of the network the Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary DNS Servers selected below are part of. The Domain Name entered here will be appended to the Host Name for DNS lookups. Ex: dialogic.com.
Primary DNS Server Assoc.
The Primary DNS Server Assoc. field has a drop down menu with a list of all configured DNS Server Associations that were added under the DNS Server Associations object. Select which DNS Server Association that was added to the DNS Server Association object will be configured as the Primary DNS Server. DNS Servers with both IPv6 and IPv4 formatting will be available in the drop down list.
Secondary DNS Server Assoc.
The Secondary DNS Server Assoc. field has a drop down menu with a list of all configured DNS Server Associations that were added under the DNS Server Associations object. Select which DNS Server Association that was added to the DNS Server Association object will be configured as the Secondary DNS Server. The Secondary DNS Server Assoc. selected will be used in case the Primary DNS Server Assoc. selected cannot be reached. If only one DNS Server is configured and the Primary DNS Server Assoc. field is populated with that server then the Secondary DNS Server Assoc. field will not display any DNS Server associations in its drop down menu to choose from. DNS Servers with both IPv6 and IPv4 formatting will be available in the drop down list.
Tertiary DNS Server
The Tertiary DNS Server Assoc. field has a drop down menu with a list of all configured DNS Server Associations that were added under the DNS Server Associations object. Select which DNS Server Association that was added to the DNS Server Association object will be configured as the Tertiary DNS Server. The Tertiary DNS Server Assoc. selected will be used in case the Primary and Secondary DNS Server Assoc. selected cannot be reached. If only one DNS Server is configured and the Primary DNS Server Assoc. field is populated with that server then the Secondary and Tertiary DNS Server Assoc. field will not display any DNS Server associations in its drop down menu to choose from. DNS Servers with both IPv6 and IPv4 formatting will be available in the drop down list.
DNS Query Type
When the IMG 2020 executes a DNS lookup the format of the records sent to the DNS Server can be either A-Records, SRV Records, or both. Select from drop down menu which type of records will be sent to the DNS Server.
Mixed (Default)Â - The IMG 2020 will send both SRV record and A-Record on queries to the DNS server.
A-Query - Only A-Records will be sent to the DNS server and all messages having SRV records will fail with a cause code of 480 Temporarily Unavailable.
SRV Query - Only SRV Records will be sent to the DNS server. If a record in A-Record format is received the IMG 2020 will transform it into an SRV record and send query with SRV Record format.
Network Interface
The DNS Client Network Interface field has a drop down menu displaying the IP addresses for each of the interfaces on the rear of IMG 2020. These interfaces were configured under the object and were configured as CPU in the Physical Interface field of that object. When the object is initially created the DNS Client Network Interface field defaults to the IP address of the CPU/Network Interface (CTRL0) configured through DHCP/BootP or SD Card.
