Setting the Boot Server
The 'boot server' (aka the TFTP server, bootserver hostname, or FTP server) is a required field for all IP Phones. The phone tries to contact the boot server in order to download firmware and configuration files. Please select your model of phone from the menu below for step-by-step instructions about manually setting the boot server.

Â
Network administrators - configure the phones to load updates en masse (DHCP-Option 066)
On networks with a Windows Domain Controller or other DHCP server that supports this feature, we recommend configuring DHCP Option 066.
DHCPÂ Options:
Go to "DHCP Options": "Scope Options", then right-click on "Server Options" and select "Configure". Scroll
down to option 066, and put in the string shown below.
Recommended setting for on-site PBX:
ftp://PlcmSpIp:PlcmSpIp@serverip
(PlcmSpIp/PlcmSpIp is the Polycom factory-default username & password recognized by the local PBX only)
This will tell the phones to load configurations from the IP address of the PBX. This avoids the need to configure each phone individually.
Â
-alternative- Remote phone configs (cloud)
If the phone network is remote from the PBX (including Connect and Enterprise dedicated hosted), one can also use ftp.pbxtra.com . However, the listed administrative contact for the PBX will need to contact Support for the FTP username/password to use.
ftp://Username:Password@ftp.pbxtra.com
Â
-note- DHCP-Option 160:
Polycom phones will also recognize DHCP-Option 160, if you need an alternative choice. But first you have to add that option to your Windows Domain Controller. Using the DHCP Manager, right-click on IPv4 and choose "Set Predefined Options". Click Add. Name: PolycomBoot. Data Type: String. Code value: 160. Save option. Then you can set option 160 the same as you would option 66 above.
Â
Manually setting the boot server on individual phones
In the absence of a DHCP server supporting DHCP-Option 66, or if just a few phones need to be updated, one can also set the boot server individually on the phone.
