DISA for Digium
DISA (Direct Inward System Access) allows someone calling in from outside the telephone switch (PBX) to obtain an "internal" system dialtone and dial calls as if from one of the extensions attached to the telephone switch. While DISA is not an officially supported option on Switchvox, it is possible to set up DISA-like functionality using Switchvox IVR menus.Â
Â
WARNING: Allowing inbound callers to have outbound dialing access can be a serious security vulnerability. If you set up this configuration for toll-free calls only, then the risk is minimal. However, if you allow long distance or international dialing via DISA you are opening your system up to potential toll fraud.Â
Â
A much better option than configuring a DISA-like IVR extension is to setup your remote user with the Switchvox Softphone App, using the steps included in How to Set Up and Manage Switchvox for the Switchvox Softphone. With the Switchvox Softphone App users can make calls from their iPhone or Android as though they were using their desk phone in addition to many other features. When DISA functionality is requested, consider if the Switchvox Softphone App will be a better solution.
Â
If you have a user that must use DISA from a remote phone, and they cannot use the Switchvox Softphone App, then creating a DISA-like IVR menu may be a helpful solution.
