IMG 1010 - Circuit Group

Description:

The circuit groups or CIC groups are created under the ISUP group. The CIC Group object takes a group of spans selected by the user and creates a Group of CICs. The Group of CICs  being created will have a starting and ending span as well as a starting CIC number. Right click on the ISUP Group object and select New SS7 Circuit Group. See below for more information.

Field Descriptions:

IMG Name

The IMG Name field displays which node the CIC Group is being created on. The IMG Name field has a drop down menu displaying all the IMG's configured under the Logical Group.

IMG Interface

Signaling- Describes the interface on rear of IMG that the CICs will use to communicate to the network through. Signaling describes the four RJ48 interfaces on the rear of the IMG labeled SIGNALING/TIMING.

Bearer- Describes the interface on rear of IMG that the CICs will use to communicate to the network through. Bearer describes the (28) RJ48 interfaces on the rear of the IMG labeled BEARER.

Start Interface Offset

Select from drop down menu the starting or first span within the CIC group being created. The available spans displayed in the drop down menu will change dependent on which interfaces on the rear of the IMG are being utilized.

Start Channel

Select from drop down menu the starting or first channel of the CIC group being created. The available channels displayed in the drop down menu will change dependent on which interfaces on the rear of the IMG are being utilized.

End Interface Offset

Select from drop down menu the ending or last span within the CIC group being created. The available spans displayed in the drop down menu will change dependent on which interfaces on the rear of the IMG are being utilized.

End Channel

Select from drop down menu the ending or last channel of the CIC group being created. The available channels displayed in the drop down menu will change dependent on which interfaces on the rear of the IMG  are being utilized.

Start CIC

Enter a numerical value in the Start CIC field. This will be the starting CIC number. The IMG will automatically number the rest of the CICs being configured in a sequential manner. When creating more than one CIC group, verify there is no overlap of CIC numbers.

Skip Channel 16 (Default = False)

When configuring SS7 on E1 channel 16 can be reserved for signaling, or not used. If out of band signaling is configured on channel 16 or the channel is not configured as a CIC, the CIC numbering no longer matches the time-slot numbering. The next two fields work toward alleviating the issue. The skip channel 16 field is supported in E1 protocol only.

False (Do Not Skip Channel 16)

The default value for this field is false. When false is selected channel 16 and each multiple of 16 will not be skipped when CICs are assigned to the time-slots. In this configuration a CIC will be assigned to channel 16. As displayed in the table below CIC #16 is assigned to time-slot 16.

True (Skip Channel 16)

When true is selected from drop down menu, channel 16 and each multiple of 16 will be skipped when CICs are being assigned to time-slots as displayed in the table below. Also, when true is selected a new field will appear. The 'Non-Contiguous CIC Numbering' field allows the IMG to configure CIC numbers so they can be mapped to the timeslots. See Non-Contiguous CIC Numbering below for more information.

Non-Contiguous CIC Numbering. (Default = False)

When the 'Skip Channel 16' field is set to true the Non-Contiguous CIC numbering field will appear as displayed below:

False - When False is selected the CIC numbering is contiguous and does not skip CIC number 16. In this scenario the CIC number and Channel number will not be the same. See screen capture below

True - When True is selected the CIC numbering is non-contiguous and CIC #16 is not created. See in screen capture below that in order to keep the CIC numbering and channel numbering equal, CIC 16 is not configured.

SKIP CIC # on TS0 (Multi Span)

Skip CIC # on Time Slot 0 specifies whether the CIC numbering is contiguous or is skipped due to channel 0 not being in use when the range of the channel assignments in the channel group is over multi spans. See below

Display Table

Refer to IMG 1010 - Provisioning CICs for more information on this table.

In Service:

Bring a CIC into service from an Out of Service State

Out of Service:

Take a CIC Out of Service

Maintenance Block:

Initiate a Maintenance Block on a specific CIC or range of CIC's. Calls will not be processed on a CIC put into Maintenance Block Mode. Any calls that are on that circuit will be brought to an idle state gracefully. Any calls on that CIC will be allowed to continue until call is released.

Maintenance Unblock:

Unblock a CIC or range of CIC's from the Maintenance Block state

Reset:

Reset a CIC.

Continuity Check Request (COT Test):

To initiate a Continuity Check on a CIC or a group of CICs, right-click on the CICs entry and select Continuity Check Request. The results will appear in the Manual COT Result column (Start, Start NACK, Success, Failure) and in Call Trace log. Below is screen capture displaying what is printed in the Call Trace when invoking the COT test.

COT cannot be performed on JT-ISUP CICs.

Circuit Query Message:

Send a CQM (Circuit Query Message) to query for the CIC state. The CQM (Circuit Query Message) and CQR (Circuit Query Request) are printed in Call Tracing. The Circuit Query Message can query one CIC at a time but cannot query a range of CICs. Below is screen capture of what is printed in Call Trace when invoking the Circuit Query Message.

Graceful Out Of Service:

Bring CIC or range of CIC's Out of Service Gracefully. Allow any calls to be released before bringing CIC to an idle state.
