How do I make incoming calls ring through my PC speakers?
Out of the box, when you receive incoming calls - Our softphone will ring your headset only. In most call centers this is preferred. Imagine a call center full of phones ringing and how inconvenient it would be.
However, there *are* situations in which one would rather have the speakers at their desk ring out loud. For example, a telecommuter is in their office all day, but might not feel like wearing the headset all the time and will need the audible notification. Therefore, we have written this guide to help you configure the ring settings to meet this need.
Note:Â This article is written as a guide only - As there are hardware variables [your PC, and soundcard] that might change this process slightly. If you need help with the process, you can contact support and reference this article. Support will make a best-effort to help you set this up.Â
Â
First things first:Â Make sure your PCÂ audio is configured correctly. This includes your sound card and your headset.
In other words, you should already be successfully placing and receiving calls using your softphone +Â headset. Additionally, you should be able to play audio through your PCÂ speakers.
If you have any questions about installing your softphone, please search the term Soft Phone above.
Note: This example shows how to setup a USB Headset, analog headsets should also work depending on your sound card
Â
Start up the softphone.
Right click on the "Display" area of the softphone, and select "Settings...".
In Settings, on the LEFT MENU -> Expand "Media" -> then Expand "Audio" -> then Expand "Devices"(To "Expand" a menu item, simply click on the "+" Symbol next to it.)
In LEFT MENU -> Select "Headset" under "Devices"
Under the section "Microphone Settings" -> Select your USB Headset as the "Device Name" -> Do the same for "Speaker Settings".
In LEFT MENU -> Select "Speaker Phone" under "Devices"
Under the section "Microphone Settings" -> Select your USB Headset as the "Device Name" -> For "Speaker Settings" Select your MAIN Audio Output (the sound you hear from your speakers).
Click "Apply" on the bottom, and then click "OK"
Â
At this point, your PCÂ speakers should ring during incoming calls. If they do not - You may need to adjust some of the settings above to work with your specific hardware configuration.
