How to perform an Attended Transfer

Also known as a “supervised” call transfer, this type occurs when—before making the transfer—a user first calls to inform the third party that a transferred call is coming their way. Follow the steps below to perform an attended call transfer:

  1. With an active call in progress, select a new line that you would like to use first.  This puts the original caller on hold and gives you a dial tone on a second line.  Dial the party that you wish to transfer to.

  2. Inform the third party that they are about to receive a call, then press the XFER button, and select line 1 (or which ever line the original caller is at) to complete the transfer.

  3. The original caller and the party you trasferred to are now connected.

When a transfer is complete, the remaining two parties will be speaking to each other and both will have ended their call with the transferor. Both lines corresponding to the other two parties will become free for use on the transferor’s phone.

Here is a 3-way call example where you call 2 external numbers, introduce them to each other, and transfer the 1st caller to the 2nd caller after having a 3-way call with them:

  • Press Line 1 - call the 1st number

  • Press Line 2 - call the 2nd number

  • Press Conf button - This now establishes a 3-way call with all parties.

Now…I’m done introducing folks and want to hop off the call completely, but still let these two parties continue talking without me.

  • I press conf to unconference the parties.

  • Press line 2 - This puts Line 1 on hold.

  • Press xfer then press line 1 - this completes the bridging of the 2 external parties.

Tested on Softphone version 1.5 (not on 1.01)
