Unable to Dial a Name By Directory

The caller goes to the dial by name directory and then proceeds to dial the first three digits of a person's last name, but the system reports that the person is not a member of the directory.

Answer

Adding Members to the Directory

The dial by name directory is a "directory" type extension. This extension contains a list of Directory Members that must be assigned in order for callers to reach that number by the dial-by-name directory. By default, the directory is assigned to extension 411, which can be modified from the list of extension under Setup->Manage. If you are unable to dial the first three digits of someone's last name, then most likely, their extension is not in the Directory Members list of the directory extension that they are dialing.

To add an extension to the Directory Members list:

  1. Go to the properties of the extension directory and you should see a list of group names:

  2. Go the Setup->Groups page and then modify the groups that belong to the Member Directory to ensure that at least one of them has the missing extension.

Note: If you find that the extension is already in at least one of these groups, then try removing the extension, save the changes, add it back, and then save the changes once again.
