SIP Signaling - IP Address

The SIP IP Address object is created under the SIP Signaling object. The SIP Signaling object creates the SIP stack and the SIP IP Address object defines the parameters that will be associated with an IP interface that the SIP messaging will pass through to communicate with the SIP stack.

Max SIP IP Address Objects

The number of SIP IP Address objects that can get created is dependent on how the IP Operation Mode field in the Signaling-SIP object is configured.

IP Operation Mode

Number of SIP IP Address objects that can get created.

Single IP

If Single IP is selected in the IP Operations Mode field, then one SIP IP Address object can be created. This scenario will allow one IP address to be configured to a primary SIP signaling interface. This will be the only IP address given to the SIP stack.

Multiple IP

If Multiple IP is selected in the Operations Mode up to 20 SIP IP Address objects (Minus the number of Media Interfaces configured) can be created. In this scenario, a SIP IP Address object can be configured for each IP interface that the SIP stack is servicing.

Related Topics and Dependencies

The SIP IP Address object is created under the SIP Signaling object. The SIP IP Address object has a drop down menu which enables a user to select an IP address. Select the IP address from the drop down menu. The IP Address selected will configure the IP address of one of the interfaces that SIP will be servicing.

Field Descriptions

IP Type

The IMG 2020 supports both the IPv4 and IPv6 protocols. Select from the drop down menu which Internet Protocol Version will be required.

IPv4 (Internet Protocol Version 4) (Default) – When IPv4 is selected, the Internet Protocol Version 4 format will be utilized. All IP addresses and Network Prefix fields in this object will require entering values using IPV4.

IPv6 (Internet Protocol Version 6) - When IPv6 is selected, the Internet Protocol Version 6 format will be utilized. All IP addresses and Network Prefix fields in this object will require entering values using IPv6. IPv6 is supported when configuring SIP Signaling and its accompanying RTP Media or Video packets. IPv6 is Not Supported when utilizing H.323 Signaling.

IP Address

The SIP Signaling IP Address field has a drop down menu displaying the IP addresses of the interfaces configured to pass SIP Signaling. Select the IP Address from the drop down menu. By default, the ip address of the <CTRL> interface configured through the dhcpd.conf or bootup.cfg file will be displayed.

Transport Type

Select from drop down menu UDP, TCP, or TLS. The IMG 2020 Defaults to UDP. If TLS is selected, the Secure Profile and Default Secure Profile fields described below can be modified. If TLS is not selected, they cannot.

Port

This field defaults to Port 5060 which is the port that is used for SIP signaling when transporting over TCP or UDP. The port number can be modified by highlighting the port number and entering a different port number.

TLS Port

This field defaults to Port 5061. Port 5061 is the port that is used when communicating with an external SIP entity using TLS. The port number can be modified by highlighting the TLS Port number and entering a different port number. The TLS port is shaded green and cannot be modified unless the Transport Type field below is first configured for TLS. Once the Transport Type has been modified to TLS then the TLS Port field can be modified.

DNS Client

When configuring DNS, an IP address first needs to be configured as either a Service or Media IP address for the IMG 2020 to recognize the IP address used for DNS lookups. In addition to configuring the IP addresses as Service or Media IP addresses, they also have to be configured as an IP address recognized by as a DNS Client also. Select from drop down menu which DNS Client previously configured will be associated with the SIP IP Address being created in this object (SIP IP Address). Refer to the Configure DNS topic for a better understanding of how this field is used when configuring DNS.

DNS Query Mode

When the IMG 2020 executes a DNS lookup, the format of the records sent to the DNS Server can be either A-Records, SRV Records, or both. Select from the drop down menu which type of records will be sent to the DNS Server.

MIX (Default) - The IMG 2020 will send both SRV record and A-Record on queries to the DNS server.

A-ONLY - Only A-Records will be sent to the DNS server and all messages having SRV records will fail with a cause code of 480 Temporarily Unavailable.

SRV ONLY - Only SRV Records will be sent to the DNS server. If a record in A-Record format is received the IMG 2020 will transform it into an SRV record and send query with SRV Record format.

Secure Profile

If TLS is selected in the Transport Type field, the Secure Profile field becomes active and can be modified. The Secure Profile field will display a list of all the available secure profiles created and once selected, will be used when the IMG 2020 behaves as an external gateway. Select one of the profiles from the drop down list.

Default Secure Profile

If a SIP transaction is received by the IMG 2020 on the TLS Port but the external gateway sending the call is not configured to use TLS security, the call will fail. To avoid this from happening, select a Secure Profile from the Default Secure Profile list. If an external gateway, not configured for TLS, sends a SIP message to the TLS Port the message will be processed using the credentials defined by selected default secure profile.

Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN)

The FQDN to be inserted in outgoing SIP messages when FQDN is enabled in the SIP Profile. Refer to the IMG 1010 - Fully Qualified Domain Name Support topic for more information.

TOS Settings

The TOS settings parameters (Precedence, Delay,Throughput,  Reliability and Cost), for the specified SIP IP address can be modified.  Refer to the Type of Service (TOS) Settings  topic for more information.
