IMG 1010 - Graceful Upgrade Manager

Description:

The Graceful Upgrade Manager Pane is used as a tool to help upgrade the IMG System Software in a Network that consists of an SS7 Primary Node, SS7 Secondary Node, and SS7 Remote Nodes. This pane is used as a visual aid to assess which nodes need upgrading and whether they are Primary/Secondary nodes and can also be used to reset or take nodes Out of Service. Below explains the individual fields etc.

ClientView Pane:

Field Descriptions:

NONE - There are no fields to be altered. The only fields in this pane are monitoring fields and are explained below.

Monitoring Fields:

SS7 Primary State:

Displays the state of the Primary SS7 node.

SS7 Secondary State:

Displays the state of the Secondary SS7 node.

Number of Nodes:

Displays all the nodes configured under the Logical IMG which includes SS7 Primary  Node, SS7 Secondary Node, and all Remote Nodes.

Buttons:

Upgrade SS7 Nodes:

This button is used to start the software upgrade process when upgrading a network of SS7 nodes. By hitting the Upgrade SS7 button, this will open a Graceful Upgrade Dialog Box as shown below with definitions of each button on dialog box. The Graceful Upgrade Dialog Box will walk you through the software upgrade of the SS7 Primary and SS7 Secondary nodes.

Reset Standby (1st stage of procedure)- When this button is pressed, the IMG which is the Standby or Peer Node will be reset. Once reset, the newest software will be loaded into the IMG as long as software on ftp site or SD Card has been upgraded. Once the Standby comes back into service it will now be running the latest software and will not synchronize with the Active Node until the  Active Nodes software has been upgraded. The Standby node will come back into service as a remote node.

Switch Over - (2nd stage of procedure) - When this button is pressed the IMG which is the Primary/Active Node will reset and load the latest software. A switchover will occur so that the IMG that was originally the Secondary/Standby will now become the Secondary/Active Node. The node that reset will load the latest software and once configured will now become the Primary/Standby node. Any calls that were in process will not be lost. Any calls in process will be lost during the brief time there is no Active Node configured. The Primary/Active and Secondary/Standby Nodes have now swapped their functions so they are now Primary/Standby and Secondary/Active.

OK- This button allows the user to close the dialog box once the process is completed

Cancel- This button allows the user to exit the dialog box at any time during the process. Note that by clicking this button, it does not undo any previous actions already started or completed from the dialog box.

Object Table:

Node ID - The Logical Node ID of each individual node.

IMG Name- The name given to IMG. This was entered when creating the physical node.

IMG Type- Indicates whether IMG is a IMG 1010 or IMG 1004

Connection State- Indicates whether IMG is currently connected to GCEMS. If GCEMS and IMG are not connected the upgrade process will fail.

Software Revision- Indicates the revision of software loaded on the IMG. Used primarily to indicate whether IMG software has been upgraded or not.

Kind Of Node- Provides a distinction between SS7 server nodes, Remote Nodes, and Backup Nodes.

Within the object table each individual node can be reset or taken out of service gracefully by right clicking on the node and selecting the desired function. See screen capture below.
