Description:

The SS7 signaling object is the first object created when configuring SS7 signaling on the IMG. To configure, right click on the Signaling object and select New SS7. The Redundancy Configuration field within this object will default to Standalone if only one node has been created within the logical node group and SS7 redundancy is not being configured. If SS7 redundancy is going to be configured, and a second IMG node has been created, the Redundancy Configuration field now allows the user the ability to select either Standalone or Primary. If configuring SS7 redundancy, select Primary in this field and in the Peer Logical Node ID field, select the ID of the node that will be the Secondary SS7 node. Once configured, the SS7 object that gets created displays whether SS7 redundancy has been configured and what the peer and secondary node ID's are. The IMG supports creating one SS7 signaling object per node and up to four SS7 stacks can be created under it.

Technical Notes:

When configuring SS7 the following happens:

The SS7 state machine is configured as either a standalone SS7 configuration or as a Primary/Secondary SS7 Configuration. The Primary will be notified about its secondary peer and the secondary and will be notified about its primary peer.

Redundancy Configuration:

This field specifies the state of the SS7 state machine. Select Primary from drop down menu if the node that the SS7 signaling is being configured on will be the primary node of an SS7 redundant pair. If SS7 redundancy is not being configured, accept the default which is Standalone.

StandAlone (Default) - Select Standalone if SS7 redundancy is not being configured on this node.

Primary- Select Primary if SS7 redundancy is being configured. By selecting Primary, the node that the SS7 signaling is being configured on will be the Primary/Active node of an SS7 redundant scenario. Once the primary object is committed and is considered the primary SS7 node, it cannot be modified. To modify, the physical node will need to be deleted and then re-added.

For the selections of Standalone and Primary to appear in the drop down menu, there must be at least two nodes created under one logical node group.

Peer Logical Node ID:

If configuring SS7 Redundancy, this field will have a drop down menu displaying all the nodes that are created under the logical node group. Select by Node ID which node will be configure as the secondary/standby node in the SS7 Redundancy scenario. If Standalone is selected in the Redundancy Configuration field then the Peer Logical Node ID field will be shaded green and cannot be modified.

Monitoring Fields:

Primary State:

This monitoring field displays the state of the primary SS7 server node.

Secondary State:

Displays the state of the standby node. This field defaults to Not Applicable when SS7 redundancy is not being configured.

Buttons:

Switch Over:

This button forces an SS7 state machine switch-over. The switchover button will initiate the switchover process from active node to standby node.
