Installation - Networking
This article serves to assist in troubleshooting connectivity issues between the Fonality PBX server and the Fonality datacenters.
NOTE: Although Fonality cannot be responsible for administration of the local network, the information provided herein is invaluable in ensuring that the server has a solid connection with the Fonality datacenters.
Â
Ensure the correct ports are open
The local firewall should allow outbound communication on TCP ports:
8000
443
80
Likewise, UDP port:
53
Variant firewall settings
If you are unable to establish the connection to Fonality’s web servers using the information above, you should consider the following alternative configurations for your firewall:
Enable a DMZ
A DMZ setting to allow all unknown incoming packets to be routed to the static IP address of the Fonality PBX server on the private network.Â
Configure a firewall rule
Configure the local firewall such that it allows the IP address of the PBXtra system to make an outbound connection to any host on any port.Â
Example:
ALLOW TCP FROM 192.168.1.10 to 0.0.0.0 ON ANY PORTÂ
ALLOW UDP FROM 192.168.1.10 to 0.0.0.0 ON ANY PORTÂ
It may be necessary to reboot the PBX; use CTRL+ALT+DEL on the system console or disconnect and reconnect the power in order to re-initiate a new connection from the PBX to the Fonality web servers.
NOTE: If the network utilizes a Watchguard firewall, or any firewall that examines the actual data payload of TCP/IP packets, this functionality may need to be disabled for traffic originating from the Fonality PBX. See the firewall vendor/manufacturer for details about how to accomplish this configuration.
