Announcement Summary

Effective today, Tuesday, March 11, 2014, Fonality has started the rollout of CP 12.7 (Control Panel version 12.7), the most recent update for trixbox Pro. Details are included in this announcement and additional resources can be found on the Fonality Knowledge Base. 

Please contact your Fonality Partner for all support issues related to this announcement or for information on additional capabilities announced in this release.

Overview of Update

Summary of Update:

1. Upgrade to NTP 4.2.7 (a security improvement)

2. trixbox Pro support of Yealink phone models T20P, T32G, T38G and W52P 

3. Bug fix

Details on the Main Features of Version 12.7:

1. An upgrade to the installed version of NTP (Network Time Protocol) to 4.2.7. Fonality’s Security Team has been closely monitoring a new hacking method (commonly referred to as DDos via NTP) that has plagued the Telecommunications industry. While Fonality’s network -- and our customers’ systems have not been compromised in any form -- this upgrade ensures that you will have the best experience and remain protected against malicious third party attacks. 

   1. Please be proactive and download and install the upgrade in order to remain up-to-date with Support and Security. 

   2. You will be prompted to install the new file the next time you log into your Fonality Control Panel at http://cp.fonality.com/ , which will automatically direct you to the Upgrade Download (See detailed installation instructions below). 

   3. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to our Support team online at www.fonality.com/support. 

2. trixbox Pro support for Yealink Phones T20P, T32G, T38G and W52P (Review additional information below).

3. A fix to the FTP log file for new activations and reactivations to correct an issue, which was causing monitors and devices to not add new phones.

12.7 Upgrade Requirements

• Servers with 12.6 will be able to upgrade to 12.7. The nature of the NTP upgrade should compel all of our partners to support customers on this upgrade as quickly as possible so please contact your partner to assist in the upgrade right away. 

• For the time being, new servers will continue to be activated with Version 12.6. No Version 12.7 will be available out-of-the-box.

• In addition, servers must be upgraded to 12.7 to have Yealink phones provisioned.

Yealink Phone Support

Fonality has arranged with Yealink to provide two different versions of the Yealink firmware needed in order to accommodate customers who have purchased Yealink phone systems from third parties. 

• If the Yealink phones were rented or purchased from Fonality, they will be provisioned with Fonality-specific firmware.

• For Yealink phones purchased from third parties, Fonality had Yealink create a special version of the Yealink firmware that allows a partner to re-use the phones with another, non-Fonality system. 

• That version of the Yealink firmware is available to your partner as a download on the Fonality Partner Exchange (FPX): http://www.fonality.com/ partnerexchange. (See detailed instructions below under Section IV – Yealink Firmware Download Instructions.)

Supported Yealink Phones 

Yealink T20P

Yealink has expanded its line-up of IP phones with a new entry-level product – the T20P. This is equipped with a TI TITAN chipset and 2x15 character LCD. These desktop phones are well suited for every day phone users who need crystal clear voice with an intuitive interface. These phones require minimal customization and are extremely easy to set up. Desktop phones become a powerful tool with the addition of our Heads Up Display software. 

Yealink T32G

The T32G is one of Yealink’s most recent innovations for managers with demanding integrated communication needs. Executive phones like the Yealink T32G are perfect for management users who wish to support up to four lines. These phones designed for busy professionals. With additional programmable hard keys and a more advanced user interface, executive phones satisfy the needs of executives and frequent phone users.

Yealink T38G 

The T38G is another of Yealink’s most recent innovations for managers with demanding integrated communication needs. Reception models are designed to appeal to attendant users, who require advanced features, applications, and multiple line support. These phones come out of the box with up to 16 programmable hard keys so that calls can be routed with ease. 

Yealink W52P  

Wireless models expand beyond the desktop without the need for a separate wireless network. With a range of 150 feet indoors, your employees are no longer tethered to their desks. If your employees need even more range with their wireless phone, an RT10 repeater can be added to extend the range. The Yealink W52P boasts a high average battery life, running off of 2 AAA rechargeable batteries and has 6 programmable keys.

For All Phones Rented or Purchased from Fonality:

There is no need to change firmware.

For Yealink Phones Purchased from a Third Party: 

• Contact your Partner and have them access the firmware via The Fonality Partner Exchange (FPX) website: https://fonality.bloomfire.com/posts/772954-yealink-firmware-downloads

• Your Partner will download the firmware for the model of Yealink phone you want to use. 

• NOTE: This firmware will provide full feature functionality on Fonality’s system but will allow for re-use by other solutions in future.

• If you do not want to use this firmware, the phones will work but will have limited functionality on Fonality’s system.
