Business Voice - Switch Quick Installation Guide
Installing a Business Voice+ Managed Switch
Locate the switch(es), and identify the network closet. Unbox the switch(es). There should be labels on the switches detailing whether they are a Master Configuration or a Slave Configuration.
Mount the switch(es) in the network closet. Best practice would be to keep the switch(es) as close to the Starbox as possible.
The Master Switch will control the communication to and from the Starbox. Follow the chart below to determine which ports to use in connecting the data (LAN2 of the Starbox or the customer’s router) and voice (LAN3 of the Starbox).
If the customer is utilizing a failover Internet connection, plug the modem/router for that circuit directly into Port 23/47 depending on the size of the switch. For more information, consult the Failover Connection Guide.

Installing Slave Switches
Installation of the slave switch(es) can begin after the Master Switch is online. The larger switches have specific ports for this purpose, called uplink ports. They are always located at the end of the switch.
While the Master Switch has special port configurations, a Slave Switch has the exact same settings for all ports. All ports can be used for computers or phones.
