Reinstalling Switchvox from an ISO

Backups:

  • Before proceeding with installation of the ISO file, you should make sure that you have downloaded any backups you need to save from your PBX, as they will be erased when the system is re-formatted. You can download them from Server-Backups in the Existing Backups section. If you need to create a backup, you can do that from the Backups page and download the backup file off the PBX.

  • You should also make a note of the software version of your backup, as it will have to be the same version as the ISO you are installing or the backup will fail to install. If you do not know the backup file version you can find the version number in the backup file name. For example if the filename is, Switchvox_Backup_F20160305020013-ABCD00-72248-350-business-00.7z.001, the version code would be 72248.

  • When proceeding to installing the backup below, do not refresh the page, make any changes, or try to navigate through the GUI until the backup is finished processing. This can cause the backup to fail and corrupt the filesystem or backup file.

ISO Installation:

  • You can install the software from the DVD that was supplied with the system or we can create an ISO for you to download and burn to DVD. If you require an ISO, you will need to contact our technical support department and request an ISO that matches the version of the backup file you want to reinstall. If you have acquired an ISO, you will need to burn the ISO to DVD and then install the ISO from the PBX optical drive, if the PBX has one, or an external DVD drive that connects to the PBX via USB cable. As a note, Apple Superdrive's are known to have issues installing ISO files so we do not recommend using this type of external DVD drive.

  • Now proceed to the installation process by attaching the external drive with the DVD to the PBX , or insert the original DVD into the PBX optical drive, and reboot the PBX. You should see the Switchvox installation screen upon reboot. Complete the following steps to install the ISO:

  1. Press ENTER to begin the install. This formats the hard drive. If you get prompted to choose a driver for the external CD-Rom drive, choose USB storage driver for Linux.

  2. Select your time zone.

  3. When the network settings options are displayed you can hit enter for Static and manually enter your PBX networking information, or you can arrow down to DHCP, hit the spacebar to select it, then the Enter key if you want the PBX to automatically use DHCP to assign the PBX networking information.

  4. Once the PBX has installed the software you will need to login to the GUI with the IP that is displayed on the monitor. You should see, "You can now administer your PBX at: https://youripaddress/admin". You will need to use the username admin and the password admin to login to the GUI.

  5. You will now need to choose the language, and accept the EULA. Then navigate to Server-Registration and enter your full 16 digit registration code, as well as your information to register the PBX.

  6. Once the PBX is registered, navigate to Server-Backups, select Upload and restore Backup, then choose the backup file from your PC that you want to reinstall. Do not make any changes, or navigate away from the page during the backup restoration. Once the backup is restored you will need to refresh the page and login using the admin credentials that you were previously using on your backup software.

  7. Once the backup has been restored, be sure that the Switchvox is functioning as expected.
