Polycom VVX FAQ

Q. What Models are supported?

A. VVX 400, VVX 410, VVX 500

Q. What firmware version to the VVX phones require?

A. We supply version 4.1.6 automatically to all VVX phones connected to a Fonality server.

Q. Can I perform a video call on a VVX 500?

A. While we don't disable the USB camera port on the VVX 500, we do not support the passthrough of video on these devices.  While a direct IP to IP call *may* allow video, calls through the Fonality system will be audio only.

Q. What else can I plug into the USB port?

A. The VVX 500 itself will allow the use of a USB flash drive to display images in the background of the phone.  This is beyond the scope of fonality support however you may refer to the Polycom user guide for help.  You can also charge some cell phones by plugging in a USB cable.

Q. What's the difference between the VVX 400 and VVX 410?

A. The VVX 400 includes a 10/100 Ethernet switch, while the VVX 410 upgrades to a Gigabit Ethernet switch.

Q. 10/100 vs. Gigabit, why do I care?

A. If the network in your organization is based on Gigabit infrastructure and you have use the daisy-chain scenario where you plug your PC into the network via the phone's PC port, you would need the Gigabit phone as a 10/100 phone would decrease the speed of your PC's network connection to match.
