Setting up a softphone
A softphone (or software phone) can be used anywhere with a properly configured internet connection. Softphones are 3rd party applications that need to be downloaded and installed independent of the Switchvox system. While there are hundreds of apps to choose from, common softphones are Bria, X-Lite, Zoiper and 3CX.
Before setting-up a softphone, please note that your extension can have only one device registered to it at a time; if you register a softphone, a physical phone already using that extension will become unregistered.
Softphones, like most SIP devices, will need at least 3 basic pieces of information for configuration:
Username/Authorization Username (your extension number)
Registration Password (phone password**)
Registrar/Proxy/Domain (IP/Hostname of PBX)
Other fields can usually remain as is.
** Your phone password is not the same password you use to access voicemail or log into the user portal.
Phone passwords can be found and modified by logging into Switchvox admin GUI, go to Setup > Extensions Manage and Modify the extension. Then go to the Phone Settings Tab > Common Settings Tab
If you have any questions about using your softphone, please consult the website of your softphone manufacturer.
