Updating to Switchvox 7.5

This article describes Switchvox version 7.5 (101700). This version offers 1:1 video calls and screen-sharing collaboration in the Desktop Softphone, and also a security correction, and a set of resolved issues.

IMPORTANT: if any phone-users have the Switchvox Softphone for Mobile app, please ensure that the Server > Phone Networks All Networks rule has Direct Port Access set to YES. Please also review the Firewall/NAT Checklist to ensure that your firewall is set correctly to support the softphone app.

Recent Release Notes: 7.0, 7.1, 7.2, 7.2.1, 7.3, 7.3.1, 7.4, 7.5, 7.5.0.1.

This version requires version 7.0 (94939). See the article Updating to Switchvox 7.0 for instructions on migrating to version 7.0.  Please note that after you update the PBX, you need to clear your web browser cache after you update, to ensure the new features display correctly.

There are new features that do not have corresponding sounds in the 7.0 language sound packs. In versions 7.0 and later, if you are using a language sound pack and a new feature, you may need to record custom sounds for use with the new feature (e.g., Virtual Queues in version 7.3).

Share your computer screen or video camera with a Switchvox coworker in the Desktop Softphone App!

For details, see How do I Use Video in the Desktop Softphone App?

Also new in version 7.5, the Preferences page. Click the gear icon in the Calls pane:

You can set a different phone to make calls with, and the appropriate device for microphone, speaker, ringer, and video camera.

Once Switchvox is updated to version 7.5, Desktop Softphone users will see an alert. That alert tells them a new version is available, and offers a download link for the installer. (That's the same link that's available on the landing page of the Switchvox admin web suite.) Until the user installs the new version of the app, the video feature isn't available. The new installer asks the user for permission to use the camera, which is required for the video feature.

Chat and Video Chat in the Switchboard

The Switchboard's Chat and Video Chat features are still available. But, those will be going away in future versions of Switchvox. If your organization uses these features in the Switchboard, we recommend that you download and use the Desktop Softphone now, and transition everyone in the organization to using that app.

Issues Resolved

  • Security issue: Access Control now correctly denies access to Web Admin Portal and Web User Portal in rare cases where it allowed access (a valid user and password were and are still required).

  • A queue caller in a Caller Waits queue can now go on virtual hold a second time, where previously this would result in the call never getting a call back.

  • A queue caller in a Caller Waits queue now receives a call back when 'Announce position in queue' is set to NO.

  • In an Outgoing Caller ID rule, the number may now start with +.

  • The Call Parking extension page now correctly displays the extensions that use that Parking Lot.

  • In the administrator's Call Log, an external-incoming call that is blind transferred to an external phone number is now displayed with a correct From number.

  • In the administrator's Call Log, a call that is parked at some point is now displayed with the correct To and From numbers.

  • Voicemail is now correctly starting up where in rare cases it did not start after an install.

  • Email Alerts for the Voicemail category are corrected for messaging.

  • Making a very large number of Digium Phone Assignment changes is now handled more efficiently to avoid loading the system.

  • Connection Status for VOIP Providers now shows State correctly where Host Type is Peer and Qualify Hosts is NO.

  • Viewing Recorded Calls in Scheduled Call Recordings no longer fails on an invalid date where the locale is other than US English.

  • Log in screens no longer allow repeated fast-paced failed login attempts to overload Switchvox.

  • The Desktop Softphone app has performance improvements to allow for a larger number of extensions using the app at the same time. Using a large number of Desktop Softphones at the same time could cause queue calls to fail to ring extensions, and cause the Switchboard to fail to load.

  • The Switchboard no longer shows queue members are Secondary where the member was Secondary then changed to Primary Log in.

  • Digium IP Phones firmware updates: 2.9.6 for D6X, and 1.12.5 for D80.

Known issues

  • In some rare cases, the new Desktop Softphone installer fails to complete due to permission issues, to address this problem, please restart the computer and try again.
