Testing RAM (Memtest86)

Unless you are very familiar with Linux and computer troubleshooting, please contact Fonality technical support before starting the following process.

  1. Plug a keyboard and monitor to your server and log in via username: ip and password: ip

  2. At the Select prompt for Network Config/Troubleshooter, enter: sh

  3. This should bring you to root, enter the command: yum install memtest86

  4. Select "y" when prompted to install memtest86

Network Config/Troubleshooter 1. Set IP Address of this system 2. Show IP Address of this system 3. Run the PING utility 4. Run the TRACEROUTE utility 5. Display the DNS Nameserver configuration 6. Display the route table 7. Display the ARP table 8. Show Analog Phone Line voltage levels 9. Show T1 Status 10. Show Active Calls 11. Set 'root' password 12. Reboot system Q.   1. open the file /boot/grub/menu.lst using vi, and change the line: timeout=5 to timeout=25. Then save your changes

  2. Reboot the server.

  3. While the server's powering up, press the UP arrow and you should see the screen below:

  4. Use your mouse cursors to select Memtest86 and press enter and start the test.

  5. The maximum number of tests is 11 passes. That will take about 3 hours to complete. Usually, running the test for 6 passes (Test #6) is sufficient. See image below:

  6. If you see errors, please take a screen shot and report to Fonality Support.
