Updating to Switchvox 7.4
This article describes Switchvox version 7.4 (101640).
Recent Release Notes:Â 6.7.1.3, 7.0, 7.1, 7.2, 7.2.1, 7.3, 7.3.1, 7.4, 7.5, 7.5.0.1.
This version requires version 7.0 (94939). See the article Updating to Switchvox 7.0 for instructions on migrating to version 7.0. Please note that after you update the PBX, you need to clear your web browser cache after you update, to ensure the new features display correctly.
There are new features that do not have corresponding sounds in the 7.0 language sound packs. In versions 7.0 and later, if you are using a language sound pack and a new feature, you will need to record custom sounds for use with the new feature (e.g., Virtual Queues in version 7.3).
New Feature:Â Chat in the Desktop Softphone App
Chat with your Switchvox coworkers in the Desktop Softphone App! Chat with one person, or a group of up to 10 people. Now the app can be used as a chat-only app, or as a phone and chat client.
For details about chatting, see How do I Use Chat in the Desktop Softphone App?
Desktop Softphone users will see an alert, once Switchvox is updated to version 7.4. That alert tells them a new version is available, and offers a download link for the installer. (That's the same link that's available on the landing page of the Switchvox admin web suite.) Until the user installs the new version of the app, the chat features aren’t available.
Â
External Messaging Using SMS
This requires a VOIP Provider in Switchvox that is SIPStation service with SMS-capable DIDs. For details, see Setting up Switchvox with SIPStation and SMS.
Chat in the SwitchboardÂ
In 7.4, the Switchboard's Chat Widget is still available. But, it will be going away in future versions of Switchvox. If your organization uses the Chat Widget in the Switchboard, we recommend that you download and use the Desktop Softphone now, and transition everyone in the organization to using that app. It's possible for two people to chat with each other if one is using the Desktop Softphone and the other is using the Switchboard, but not recommended. Creating a chat to an External Contact (SMS) is not possible in the Switchboard, and neither is group chat.
