How do I monitor a call?

Call Monitor

The first way is by using a feature code extension.

  1. Setup → Manage

  2. Create Extension

  3. Choose Call Monitor from the drop down menu

  4. Set your call monitor group

    1. Who can monitor

    2. Who can be monitored

  5. Save Call Monitor Feature Code.

With the Call Monitor feature you can silently listen in on another extension’s current call. For example, if you define *92 as the Call Monitor feature code, dialing *92202 will listen in on 202’s call without either party knowing.

While monitoring a call you can switch to different modes by pressing the corresponding digits on your phone:

  • Press 5 for whisper mode. This mode allows you to talk to the extension you're monitoring but does not let the other party hear you.

  • Press 6 for barge mode. This mode allows both parties to hear you.

  • Press 4 to return to the default monitor mode.

Choose a type of extension to add, and then put groups or extensions into the collections. You can do this two different ways.

The next method is through the switchboard.  To view someones call, in order to monitor, barge, whisper or record you'll...

  1. Add them to your Phone Book as an extended Entry.

  2. Log in to the /admin

  3. Setup→Permissions

  4. Create Extension Permission Mapping

  5. Choose, at least, your extension as the permission holder

  6. Choose, at least, one target to monitor.

  7. Be sure to select YES for the options to Monitor and any other permissions you wish to grant yourself

  8. Login to your extension under <ipaddressofpbx>/main

  9. Load Switchboard

  10. Mouse over the plus icon for the extension's phonebook entry.

This will let the Holders silently listen in on the target’s current call. This includes monitor, whisper, or barge.
