Supporting Switchvox software running in a Virtualized Environment

If you plan to run your Switchvox in a virtualized environment, Digium will provide technical support, we support Switchvox as a software product, as opposed to specific non-Digium hardware configurations or virtualized environments,  however there are few items that you need to be aware before you make the decision. 

 

You will be responsible for any interactions or issues that arise at the Hardware or Operating System layer as a result of their use of virtualization.

 

Please note that in Virtualized environment, Digium Tech Support will not able to to provide assistance with Digium Hardware Installation such as (Digium Analog, Digital cards, Hybrid), usually known as PCI pass-through. Virtualized environments should use SIP connections as a way to connect the PBX with the PSTN, use the Digium Gateway is recommended when T1/E1 lines are installed at the customer's facilities.

 

As regards of licensed software (G.729, Fax), you must confirm that the Virtualization Software used allows persistent hardware, meaning that hardware interfaces must not change on reboot or shutdown. otherwise any these events will cause the license to become invalid. 

 

In the event of an problem report with a Switchvox running on a virtualized environment, we will not require you to recreate and troubleshoot every issue in a non-virtualized environment; however, we reserve the right to request you do so to diagnose certain issues on a Digium appliance, without the virtual environment.  We will only make this request when there is reason to believe that the virtual environment is a contributing factor to the issue.

 

Any time spent on investigation of problems that may, in the sole opinion of Digium, be related to a virtualized environment, will be handled in the following fashion:

  1. Digium will provide standard support to all Switchvox customers, based on their contracted maintenance and subscription level.

  2. If a problem is encountered while Switchvox is running in a virtualized environment, the you may be required to recreate the problem on a Digium appliance, at which time Digium will provide regular support.

  3. Regardless of the problem type or source, if the problem is determined to be a non-virtualized related issue – the issue may be escalated to Digium engineering for further diagnostics, if Digium Tech Support deems appropriate..
