How to change Caller ID by dialing a code

This article will guide you through changing the way your Caller ID name/number appears for the receiving end of the call. This can be especially useful in situations where a user may have to display a different caller ID based on the audience they are reaching out to.

Example: The caller works for Company A and Company B but their default caller ID show's company A's information. When they make calls that need to show up as Company B on the receiving end, they would utilize the code before dialing the number, to change the caller ID information that is sent out to show "Company B."

  1. Create Outgoing Call Rule

  • Decide what you want use for the code, for this example we will use 99, so 99 + dialed number will change caller ID.

  • Make sure you are logged in as anExt. Info

  • Navigate to Setup/Outgoing Call Rules

  • Click Create New Call Rule

  • Under "Pattern to Match," for "Number Begins with digits," you would type the code you want to use. For this example we will put "99" because this is the code we are using to change the caller ID.

  • Populate the rest of the number you want to dial with the variance in length of the number (minus the code), For this example we will do 10 digits.

  • Before connecting the call trim the number of digits that equals the code length (we are stripping the code off before sending the call). For this example we enter "2." Leave the "prepend" section blank.

  • Choose the "Primary Call Through Provider."

  • Select "Yes" for both, "Is this rule final" and "Allow all existing."

  • Save the rule.

  1. Create a Caller ID Rule to match the Outgoing Rule just created

  • Under "Outgoing Call Rules," select the "Caller ID Rules" tab.

  • Select "Create Single Rule" and give the rule an appropriate name and description.

  • Under "Single Caller ID Rule Routing," select the group(s) or extension(s) you want the rule to apply to.

  • When you see "is making an outgoing call through rule," you will see a drop down menu. From the drop down select the Outgoing Call Rule we created above (99 in this example).

  • Enter the desired caller ID "name" and "number" in the fields near the bottom and then save the rule.

  • At this point you should be able to dial the code followed by your desired number and the caller will see the caller ID you set in the Caller ID rule.

  • Test this using a land line telephone.
